$1,267 Salvage Jeep to Like New! Full Beijing BJ212 Restoration

On June 4, 2026, I rescued a 2006 Beijing/BAW BJ212 that was about to be sent to a scrapyard. The asking rate was roughly $0.27 per pound, and the final deal came to only about $1,267 USD. For a vehicle this old, the condition was surprisingly good. It had covered just over 14,900 miles, had no major off-road history, no serious rust-through, and the engine still started immediately. But looking good mechanically wasn’t enough. We wanted to bring this classic Chinese 4x4 back to its original character. The entire vehicle was stripped down, the old paint and decals were removed, the bumpers were restored, and the frame and roll-bar mounts received rust treatment and fresh coatings. The seats, dashboard, interior panels and shift boot were also refurbished. A damaged seat bracket was repaired, the interior was rebuilt, and all the details were brought back together. After 15 days of restoration, this former scrapyard candidate was ready for another chapter. And then, just when the project was finished, a buyer from Jiangsu showed up. He was a retired auto mechanic who had always wanted one of these classic BJ212s.
