Description
This Toyota Land Cruiser Prado was caught in a devastating flood. The water swept the vehicle away, another vehicle struck it, and it eventually overturned. Thankfully, the owner escaped, but the Prado was left with severe water damage. With only mandatory liability insurance and no coverage for damage to his own vehicle, the owner decided to repair it rather than give up.
We began by dismantling and cleaning the muddy interior and exterior, then removed the engine for a closer inspection. The engine had taken in water, but the contaminated fluids were drained promptly and the intake system was dried. Surprisingly, the cylinder liners showed no obvious rust or corrosion, giving us hope that the engine could be cleaned, inspected, and rebuilt with the necessary replacement parts.
The biggest challenge may be the electrical system and electronic control modules, which can develop problems even after the mechanical components are repaired. We’ll use suitable salvage parts where possible and OEM parts when necessary.
This restoration could take several weeks. Can this flooded Prado make a full comeback? Stay tuned for the next episode!
