Some recipes become part of your family story even when they didn't originate in your family. ❤️ This classic Hershey's chocolate cake is one of those recipes for me. My great-aunt was known in our family for her cakes, and this rich chocolate cake was one she made often. I'm fairly certain the recipe originally came from one of the old cookbooks she used, and today you can find this classic recipe right on Hershey's cocoa containers. So no, I can't claim this one as a secret family recipe—but it certainly became a **family tradition**. And whenever I make it, I can't help but think of my great-aunt and all the wonderful cakes she made over the years. This is a good old-fashioned chocolate layer cake: moist, rich, deeply chocolatey and covered with homemade chocolate frosting. It's the kind of cake that doesn't need anything fancy to make it special. That's one of the things I love about recipes. We don't necessarily have to invent them for them to become part of our family's story. Sometimes we make a recipe so often, and for so many people we love, that eventually the memories become just as important as the recipe itself.
