At street level, Washington, DC is marble, monuments, and manicured lawns. Beneath it lies something else: seven stacked worlds, each built to bury a problem the city couldn't solve above ground. This episode descends through all of them. It starts with Tiber Creek, the open sewer the capital entombed in brick and paved over with the most patriotic street name in the country. It rides the century-old private subway under Congress that quietly doubled as an escape route on January 6th. It meets the Smithsonian scientist who dug a secret labyrinth under his own block by hand — and hid an even stranger secret above ground. It goes 100 feet down into the mega-tunnels a court forced the city to build, where a boring machine named Nannie stores 38 million gallons of storm water in the dark.
