This Is How The White House Gets Rid of Classified Trash

Inside the white house there is a bag filled with garbage and it is being treated like a high priority package, it’s got a delivery window, a specific room number, and even a secret service officer waiting to take it. This bag is what is known as a burn bag and the rules for how to dispose of it are written into the Code of Federal Regulations. In this video we will follow a sheet of paper through the four layers of the white houses waste disposal system, the ordinary trash, which the government claims leaves like any other government building. We will talk about The Presidential Records act of 1978 which prohibits the president from throwing away any of his own notes without asking the national archivist first and sometimes even needing to wait months for congress. Because who knows what quickly jotted down pizza order is gonna become american history down the line. The Office of Records Management and the Standard Form 115 countdowns that decide what becomes history. And finally Room 096, the Loading Dock Shredder Room, OMB Form 87, and the one sentence of federal regulation that turns a bag left outside a closed door into a security breach.
