Description
📖 Forty years of dressing women over 60, the whole method, set down in one book
https://viviansinclairstyle.com/
I am 5 foot 4, which is nothing remarkable in either direction, and for about 30 years people in my shop assumed I was considerably taller than that. It was not posture and it was not heels, because I gave those up at 51.
A woman would stand in front of my long mirror, look at herself, and say: well, I am short, so that is that. She would say it in the same resigned way she might have said that it was raining.
It was almost never her height. I fitted women of 5 foot 1 who read as tall and women of 5 foot 9 who read as small and square, and the difference was never the measurement. Nobody you meet knows how tall you are. They have no reference and they are not measuring. All they have is an impression, and an impression is made of LINES.
THE PRINCIPLE: every horizontal line on your body is a FULL STOP. The eye travels up a figure the way it reads a sentence, and every strong horizontal stops it. A contrasting belt is a full stop. A hemline is a full stop. A bag strap across you is a full stop. The line where a dark trouser meets a light top is a full stop. Height, as the eye perceives it, is simply how far it can travel without stopping.
How to SEE them, in one minute: stand in front of a long mirror and half close your eyes until everything goes blurred. The detail disappears and the lines do not. Most women find five or six, and only ever intended one.
The 6:
1. THE OUTFIT SPLIT IN HALF — the most common outfit in the country and the most shortening. Why a third and two thirds beats half and half, which half should be the short one, and the open jacket that overrides the whole thing
2. THE CONTRASTING BELT — why it makes the waist read WIDER, and the one belt trick that genuinely adds an inch or two of apparent leg
3. THE HEMLINE IN THE WRONG PLACE — forget mini, midi and maxi. A hem should finish where your leg is NARROWING, never where it is widest. How to find that spot on your own calf with your hand
4. THE SHOES — specifically the top edge, why a nude shoe is the most lengthening one there is, and why an ankle strap sits exactly where you want nothing
5. THE BAG — the size, and the strap length almost nobody has been told about. Where the bottom of your bag sits is where the eye is being sent
6. SCALE — matching accessories to your own frame, with the 4-second mirror test. And the reverse, which catches tall women constantly
Plus the three things that actively lengthen: a focal point near the face, showing ankles and wrists (and the third narrow place everybody forgets), and one tone from shoulder to shoe.
THE HONEST PART: every video about this is aimed at petite women, and almost none of it is actually about height. I fitted a woman of 5 foot 9 who read as short and heavy in every photograph because she cut herself in half at the waist every day of her life. We changed nothing except which trousers went with which tops.
And if you are short: none of this is about hiding being short. There is nothing whatever wrong with being short. It is only that the eye reads lines, and you may as well have them working for you as against you, since they are going to be there either way.

Tell me in the comments how tall you actually are, and whether people guess it right. I have a suspicion about what the answers will be. I read every single one.
