Description

Just Layer Potatoes & Ground Beef! The Whole Family Begs for This Dinner! Crispy golden potatoes baked with savory ground beef, peppers, onion and a melty Cheddar-Mozzarella center. A cozy potato and beef bake that's simple, budget-friendly, and perfect for a busy weeknight. This is the kind of easy family dinner people ask for again and again: potatoes, ground beef, cheese and a few simple seasonings. A crispy potato crust on the outside, a soft cheesy beef filling in the middle, and that golden top everyone fights over. Total time: About 45-55 min, plus 15 min resting. Roughly 20 min prep, 20-30 min baking. Servings: Makes about 4 servings, depending on appetite. Customize it! Use ground beef, pork, turkey or chicken. Any good melting cheese works - Cheddar, Mozzarella, Gouda or Monterey Jack. Want extra color on top? Broil for the last 2-3 minutes, but watch it closely so it doesn't burn. I kept this one quick and simple, but you can add mushrooms or a handful of frozen peas to the beef. Not a fan of green onions and sour cream on top? Swap for a fresh side salad - I have plenty of salad ideas in my other videos. 🔔 New recipes every week: https://youtube.com/@YumCult 👍 Like if you enjoyed! For the Potatoes: ~3 lb / 1.5 kg potatoes, diced 4-5 eggs ~1.75 oz / 50 g finely grated Parmesan Salt, black pepper, smoked paprika (optional) Oil for frying Butter for the dish For the Beef Filling: ~1 lb / 500 g ground beef 1 tsp garlic powder 1 onion, diced 1 bell pepper, diced 2-3 garlic cloves, minced 1 tbsp tomato paste 1/2 tsp dried thyme 1-2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Butter for cooking Salt and black pepper to taste For the Cheese: ~3.5 oz / 100 g shredded Cheddar ~3.5 oz / 100 g shredded Mozzarella To Serve: Sour cream Fresh green onions, sliced 📝 Quick Instructions: Potatoes: Dice potatoes and fry in hot oil until golden and crispy. Work in batches so the pan isn't crowded - that's how you get the best crust. Season with salt, pepper and a little smoked paprika. Egg mix: Whisk 4-5 eggs with salt and pepper. Add the grated Parmesan. Pour over the fried potatoes and mix well. Layer the base: Rub the baking dish all over with butter. Add most of the potato mix, saving some for the top layer. Beef: Brown the ground beef, seasoning with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Transfer to a bowl. In the same pan, melt a knob of butter and cook the onion, then the bell pepper, until soft. Add a little more butter if it's dry. Sauce: Add the minced garlic, tomato paste and thyme. Cook 30-40 seconds until fragrant. Return the beef, add Worcestershire sauce, then taste and adjust the seasoning. Assemble: Spread the beef over the potato base. Add the Cheddar and Mozzarella. Cover with the rest of the potatoes. Bake: Bake at 400°F / 200°C for 20-30 minutes, until golden on top. For extra color, broil the last 2-3 minutes. Rest and serve: Let it rest at least 15 minutes so the slices hold together. Top with a spoonful of sour cream and fresh green onions.
