Description
#archaeology #paleoindian #ancienthistory
It sits in a narrow creek valley thirteen miles north of Guernsey, in the dry high plains of southeastern Wyoming. The bedrock nearby is ancient granite and Tertiary sediment, pushed up along the edge of something geologists call the Hartville Uplift. The valley is small, almost forgotten-looking, and for most of the year the creek running through it barely qualifies as a creek. You could drive past the turnoff and never think twice about it. But underneath the floor of that valley, in soil laid down by thousands of years of creek flooding and hillside wash, there is something no other site on Earth contains.
