The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed the court’s decision, saying the ruling considered the vulnerability of the complainants and the potential risk of interference with evidence. Sibiya, 59, faces five charges: rape, trafficking in persons, promoting the sexual grooming of a child and two counts of sexual grooming of a child. According to the State, the alleged sexual grooming took place through electronic communication between 20 July and 3 August 2026. The rape charge relates to an alleged incident involving an adult female complainant on 16 May 2026. The trafficking charge involves allegations concerning three individuals. During the bail proceedings, the State argued that releasing the accused could expose complainants to possible intimidation and create risks of witness interference or evidence tampering. The court found that Sibiya had failed to satisfy it that the interests of justice permitted his release on bail. The matter has been postponed to 24 November 2026 for further investigations. What does this bail ruling mean for the case? Why did the State oppose his release, and what happens next? Watch the full report and join the conversation in the comments.
