FLORIDA 1973 Cold Case Solved - Two Sisters Vanished While Hitchhiking Home

In May 1973, sisters Marguerite “Maggie” Jenkins, 18, and Mary Jenkins, 16, were vacationing in the Florida Keys after traveling from New Jersey. They were last seen hitchhiking on Stock Island near Key West on May 2. The following day, they were found near U.S. 1 in Key Largo, leaving investigators with a mystery that would remain unresolved for more than five decades. This Root of Crime documentary follows Maggie and Mary from their trip to Key West through the original investigation, the years their family spent waiting for answers, the preservation and re-examination of old evidence, and the forensic work that eventually gave investigators a name. In September 2026, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office announced that David Allen Snyder had been identified as the suspect in the 1973 homicides. Snyder had died in 2008 and was never tried in the case. Root of Crime tells carefully researched, victim-centered cold-case stories from the moment they begin to the evidence and investigative work that finally bring answers. #coldcases #TrueCrime #ColdCaseSolved
