Description

**SPOILER ALERT** I cover plots (not in detail) from the following movies: -When Harry Met Sally -Before Sunrise -The Idea of You -Past Lives Why do so many modern romance movies feel empty even when the couple ends up together? This video essay explores what makes screen love believable, through the late night phone call in When Harry Met Sally, the long walk through Vienna in Before Sunrise, the recent stumble in The Idea of You, and the quiet patience of Past Lives. Modern films know how to stage beautiful dates and impressive gestures. What they often skip is the ordinary time in between where trust actually forms, the conversations that run out and find their way back, the small irritations and the evenings with nowhere special to be. When older films stay with that slow stretch, we stop wondering when the fall happened because we were there for it. When new films rush past it toward travel and beautiful rooms, we can see that the movie wants us to believe, but we do not feel that we know the couple well enough to understand why. We watched them fall in love, but we were not there when it happened.#modernromance #beforesunrise #pastlives #whenharrymetsally #videoessay #filmanalysis
