China is building a vast network of tunnels to carry Jinsha River water through the mountains of Yunnan. The Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project includes approximately 612 km of tunnels along a 664 km main route. Huge pumps will first lift water roughly 720 feet before it continues mainly by gravity.
