Description

On February 26, 1988, a 22-year-old New York police rookie was shot five times in a patrol car in South Jamaica, Queens. The order was to kill a police officer, any police officer. It came from a man already behind bars: Howard “Pappy” Mason. This is the documented story of that order, the funeral that drew about 10,000 officers, the badge a President kept in his desk, the trial Mason refused to attend, the life sentence, and the rapper who named him in two songs. Where the record is attributed instead of proven, we say so. 0:00 February 26, 1988 1:28 South Jamaica in the crack era 4:11 Pappy and the Bebos 6:09 The arrest and the order 8:20 The night and the nation 11:44 The four men 13:02 The man in custody 16:05 Life 17:40 Nas, the badge, and what the record shows Sources: United States v.
