Description
Dubai is one of the wealthiest cities in the world, but its prosperity depends heavily on the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most vulnerable shipping chokepoints. With escalating tensions threatening global trade, ambitious alternatives are emerging. In April 2026, Dubai-based architecture firm Znera Space unveiled an extraordinary proposal: a massive artificial waterway cutting through the United Arab Emirates to connect the Persian Gulf directly to the Gulf of Oman, bypassing the Strait of Hormuz entirely. Alongside plans for new ports, this seemingly impossible megaproject could cost an astronomical sum and face unprecedented engineering challenges. But could these radical proposals reshape the future of trade in the Middle East?
