Description

Scientists thought these fossils belonged to young T. rex. New evidence suggests they were wrong. For decades, small, slender tyrannosaur fossils were used to reconstruct what a teenage Tyrannosaurus rex may have looked like. But new studies of Nanotyrannus — including the famous Dueling Dinosaurs specimen and the Cleveland skull — show that at least some of these animals were already fully grown. That means Nanotyrannus may not have been a juvenile T. rex at all, but a separate predator living alongside it. In this documentary, we explore the Nanotyrannus vs T. rex debate, the fossil evidence that changed the story, what this means for teenage T. rex, and why scientists may now need to rethink part of Tyrannosaurus growth.
