This Dinosaur Survived a T. Rex Bite — With the Tooth Still Inside

Dinosaur bite marks found on fossilized skulls provide a brutal look at prehistoric survival and the mechanics of ancient combat. We examine a specific Edmontosaurus skull featuring an embedded tooth, offering clear evidence of bone healing around a severe injury. By contrasting this healed trauma with specimens showing no signs of recovery, we can determine whether the animal survived the initial attack or succumbed to the bite. This analysis helps researchers distinguish between active predation events and scavenging behavior in the Cretaceous ecosystem. Understanding dinosaur pathology requires looking past the bone itself to the biological response of the animal. We break down the indicators of long-term healing versus immediate trauma to see how these creatures lived and died. By re-examining the fossil evidence, we are starting to see a more complex picture of these prehistoric predators.
