Description

If your car slides into a snowbank this winter, the cold is only part of the danger. The rest comes from your own tailpipe, or from the moment you decide to get out and walk. In this video I walk you through 13 things to keep in your car before the first snow, from the official winter car-kit lists: a long-handled ice scraper and snow brush, winter de-icer washer fluid, jumper cables or a jump pack, sand or non-clumping cat litter, a folding snow shovel (number 9, the one most drivers forget, whose first job is the tailpipe), a bright cloth and reflective triangles, a headlamp with spare batteries, a car phone charger, water and high-calorie snacks, your medicine and a first aid kit, warm clothes and boots, a wool blanket or sleeping bag, and the number one item, which you won't find on a store shelf. If you're stranded: stay with the car, keep the tailpipe clear, run the engine about 10 minutes an hour with a window cracked, and watch for hypothermia. Sources mentioned: NHTSA, National Safety Council, AAA, National Weather Service, CDC, American Heart Association, U.S. Department of Energy, Ready.gov. Never let anyone wait in a running car while snow is cleared around it. Prices vary by store and region. This is general safety information, not medical advice; ask your doctor or pharmacist about your medications. This channel is made with the help of AI tools. What's riding in your trunk right now?
