Description

In the 1950s, for fifteen cents, the federal government sold families a booklet called Home Protection Exercises. Every question in this video comes straight from its pages. Harlan quizzes you on twenty-five of them: the CONELRAD numbers on the radio dial, what the sirens meant, how much water and food to store, the hot water heater trick, the bottle of DDT on the supply list, the three foot rule around the furnace, oily rags, hot doors, escaping through smoke, burns, shock and more. After each answer you'll hear what the government said in 1957 and what the experts say today, including a few answers that could get someone hurt now. Keep score, and see if you'd pass. Number one is the question a woman living alone has the hardest time answering. We use AI tools to support the production of this video. #CivilDefense #1950s #EmergencyPrep
