2027 - APC GOVS PLOT AGAINST TINUBU

All Progressives Congress took its national leadership to Maiduguri, Borno State, for a three-day strategic retreat. The theme was 'Strengthening party organisation, unity and electoral readiness towards 2027.' It ended with a communiqué and a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima and every APC candidate on the ballot. Party chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda was confident. He said the ADC and the NDC would take part in the election but would not seriously contest it. As evidence, he pointed to by-elections where the APC won four of five, including one last week in Ganye, Atiku Abubakar's own local government area. But there's a problem the communiqué didn't fully address. For weeks, APC governors have been in a public fight with a man who isn't one of them: FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Wike's 'Rainbow Coalition' says it backs Tinubu for president, but it also backs candidates from other parties further down the ballot. APC governors have rejected any arrangement they say could undermine their own candidates. Wike has accused some of them of being politically lazy. The President has said nothing.
