Description

Sirens - Homer's Odyssey - Ancient Greek Song (English Subtitles) An original song retelling Odysseus and the Sirens from Homer's Odyssey Book XII, performed entirely in ancient Greek with full English subtitles. The moment Odysseus becomes the only man in the story who hears the Sirens' song and lives to tell it. What happens in the story: Homer's Odyssey Book XII finds Odysseus and his crew sailing past the island of the Sirens, creatures whose song is said to lure any sailor who hears it to his death. Warned in advance, Odysseus orders his men to plug their ears with beeswax so they cannot hear the Sirens at all. He alone wants to hear the song, so he has himself bound tightly to the mast, ordering his crew not to release him no matter how much he begs. As the ship passes the island, the Sirens sing, promising Odysseus knowledge of everything that has ever happened in the world. Straining against the ropes, he pleads to be set free, but his men, deaf to the song, only tie him tighter and row on. The island fades behind them, and Odysseus becomes the only man in the story to hear the Sirens song and live. About this song: Lyrics composed in ancient Greek, drawn directly from the events of Odyssey Book XII, including lines adapted from the Sirens own song in Homer's original text. Instrumentation built around lyre, sustained drone, and layered vocal harmonies, evoking the pull of the Sirens voices. A personal note: After watching Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey", I couldn't stop thinking about the Sirens sequence for days. I already had something similar in the works, but I don't think this track would have turned out the way it did if I hadn't seen that scene and heard that music. If Ludwig Göransson ever hears this, I just want to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for creating something that good. #odyssey #sirensong #greekmythology #theodyssey #mythology #ancientgreek #odysseus #greekhistory #ancientgreece #storymusic #historymusic #melancholicmusic #mythologystories
