Description

For 60,000 years, Aboriginal Australians have said the same thing: we have always been here. In 2025, science finally caught up. A massive new study sequenced 2,456 mitochondrial DNA genomes from Indigenous Australians, New Guineans, and Southeast Asian populations — the largest dataset of its kind ever assembled — and the results didn't just refine the old migration story. They tore it up. In this video, we examine what the data actually revealed: two separate migration routes into Australia 60,000 years ago, a 15,000-year dating gap between genetics and archaeology that finally closed, and DNA evidence of not two but three ancient human species interbreeding with the ancestors of Aboriginal Australians — including one that has never been identified from bones, only from the traces it left in living people. We cover the Denisovan genes still protecting people today, why up to 25% of genetic variants in some Aboriginal communities exist nowhere else on Earth, what this means for modern medicine, and how oral traditions describing a 37,000-year-old volcanic eruption line up perfectly with the genetic record. #IndigenousAustralians #PaleoGenomics #AncientHumans #DenisovanDNA #OldestCivilization #AboriginalAustralians #DNA #HumanOrigins #Genetics #Archaeology #AncientDNA #Denisovan #Neanderthal #HumanEvolution #IndigenousHistory #Anthropology #Science #Genomics #AncientHistory #Sahul
