Description
For nearly 60 hours, Harrison Okene remained trapped inside the overturned wreck of the Jascon-4—approximately 30 metres beneath the Atlantic Ocean.
On 26 May 2013, the tugboat capsized off the coast of Nigeria and sank to the seabed with twelve men aboard. Harrison, the vessel’s cook, found a small pocket of air inside the wreck and waited in complete darkness as cold water surrounded him.
When saturation divers entered the vessel two days later, they were expecting a recovery operation—not a survivor.
Then, through the darkness, a hand reached towards the diver.
This documentary reconstructs Harrison Okene’s extraordinary fight for survival and incorporates footage from the remarkable operation that brought him out alive. It explores the sinking, his time inside the wreck, the dangers of diminishing oxygen and rising carbon dioxide, and the moment the rescue team discovered the impossible.
Some scenes are cinematic reconstructions created to illustrate events for which no original footage exists. Original archive sequences are presented separately and remain visually authentic.
Eleven members of the Jascon-4 crew lost their lives in the disaster. This film is dedicated to their memory and to the rescuers who entered the wreck.
