The History of Israel in 17 minutes

The history of Israel stretches from ancient Canaan and the kingdoms of Israel and Judah to the modern State of Israel and the unresolved Israeli-Palestinian conflict in 2026. This documentary follows the region through ancient Israel, Jerusalem, Babylonian exile, Persian and Roman rule, the Jewish diaspora, the rise of Zionism, the British Mandate, the Holocaust, the creation of Israel in 1948, the Palestinian Nakba, the wars of 1967 and 1973, the Oslo peace process, Gaza, October 7 and the modern struggle over security, sovereignty and Palestinian statehood. But the history of Israel cannot be understood as only one national story. For Jews, it includes ancient attachment to the land, centuries without sovereignty, persecution, Zionism and the creation of a modern Jewish state. For Palestinians, the same modern history includes dispossession, displacement, occupation and an unrealized struggle for national self-determination. This video follows both histories across the same land. Covered in this documentary: • Ancient Canaan • The origins of ancient Israel • The kingdoms of Israel and Judah • Jerusalem • The Assyrian conquest • Babylon and the destruction of Jerusalem • Cyrus the Great and the Persian period • Hellenistic rule • The Maccabees and Hasmonean kingdom • Roman Judea • The destruction of the Second Temple • The Bar Kokhba revolt • Jewish diaspora and continued Jewish presence • Christian and Islamic Jerusalem • Crusaders, Saladin and Ottoman rule • The rise of Zionism • Theodor Herzl • The Balfour Declaration • The British Mandate • The Holocaust and Jewish refugees • The 1947 UN Partition Plan • The creation of Israel in 1948 • The Palestinian Nakba • The 1967 Six-Day War • Israeli occupation and settlements • The 1973 war • Egypt-Israel peace • The First Intifada • The Oslo Accords • The Second Intifada • Gaza and Hamas • The Abraham Accords • October 7, 2023 • The Gaza war • Israel and Palestine in 2026 The central question remains unresolved: Can Israeli security and Palestinian self-determination exist on the same land without one destroying the other? #HistoryOfIsrael #IsraelHistory #MiddleEastHistory #History
