Description
The history of America is the story of a country founded on the promise that “all men are created equal” — and the 250-year struggle over who that promise actually included.
From Native civilizations and European colonization to the American Revolution, slavery, westward expansion, the Civil War, industrialization, immigration, two world wars, the Civil Rights Movement, the Cold War and the United States in 2026, this documentary follows how America grew from thirteen colonies into a global superpower.
But this is not simply a story of American power.
Before the United States existed, hundreds of Native nations already lived across North America. European colonization brought settlement, trade, war, disease and slavery. The Revolution created an independent country, but its founding ideals existed beside enormous contradictions.
The United States then expanded across the continent.
Native peoples were displaced.
Slavery expanded.
The country split apart in the Civil War.
Reconstruction attempted to redefine American citizenship.
Industry created extraordinary wealth and inequality.
Millions of immigrants transformed American cities.
World wars turned the United States into a global superpower.
The Civil Rights Movement forced the country to confront promises written almost two centuries earlier.
And in 2026 — 250 years after the Declaration of Independence — many of the oldest arguments in American history remain unresolved.
Who belongs?
Who gets political power?
What does equality require?
How strong should the federal government be?
Where does individual liberty end and government authority begin?

America became powerful because it expanded.
It became rich because it industrialized.
It became a superpower after wars transformed the world around it.
But the deeper history of America is the continuing argument over who was allowed to become fully American.
