Description
What happens when you take your grandson to a historic fort he already learned about in school? He becomes the tour guide!
Come along with us as we visit Fort Loudoun State Historic Park in Vonore, Tennessee, but this time we're experiencing history a little differently — through the eyes of our grandchildren.
Our grandson had studied Fort Loudoun in school, so as we explored the fort, he started recognizing places, remembering things he'd learned, and even explaining parts of the history to us. Suddenly, this wasn't just another historic site we were visiting. It was something he had read about in a classroom coming to life right in front of him.
And we absolutely loved getting to experience it with him.
Fort Loudoun is an incredible piece of Tennessee history, dating back to the 1750s and the French and Indian War. Today, visitors can walk through the reconstructed fort, explore the buildings inside the wooden walls, and imagine what life might have been like here more than 250 years ago.
Surrounded by the beautiful scenery of East Tennessee and overlooking Tellico Lake, Fort Loudoun State Historic Park is a fascinating place to explore whether you love history, Tennessee travel, family adventures, or simply discovering interesting places along the backroads.
But our favorite part of this visit wasn't just the fort.
It was listening to our grandson tell us about something he'd learned in school.
Sometimes the best way to experience history is through the eyes of the next generation.
