Description

Experience the face of one of ancient Egypt’s most powerful priests through the power of Artificial Intelligence, advanced facial reconstruction, digital restoration, and realistic 3D visualization. This documentary-style AI reconstruction brings Masaharta, High Priest of Amun, back to life, more than 3,000 years after his death. His mummy rests today in the Mummification Museum in Luxor. Each reconstruction is inspired by archaeological evidence, preserved mummies, inscriptions, historical records, and the physical features preserved through thousands of years. Masaharta (also spelled Maseharti) served as High Priest of Amun at Thebes around 1054 to 1045 BCE, during Egypt’s 21st Dynasty. In this era the High Priests of Amun effectively governed Upper Egypt alongside the kings. His father, Pinedjem I, was himself High Priest and de facto ruler of the south, and around 1054 BCE he declared himself pharaoh. Masaharta then took over the priesthood, and he is also recorded as a general of the army. His mummy was found in 1881 in the Deir el-Bahari royal cache, hidden with several family members. Today it is the centerpiece of the Mummification Museum in Luxor, which opened in 1997 to explain ancient Egyptian embalming and the beliefs that made it necessary. His wife is thought to have been Tayuheret, a Singer of Amun whose own mummy was found in the same cache. Using AI facial reconstruction, digital restoration, realistic facial modeling, historical reconstruction, and cinematic 3D visualization, this project offers an immersive glimpse into the past while respecting the archaeological evidence behind each reconstruction.
