Description
February 1963. A shepherd wanders into a frozen valley in Ladakh and finds something that will haunt him forever — Indian soldiers, dead for three months, still gripping their weapons exactly as they fell. What happened to them? And why did the five survivors who made it back get branded as cowards and traitors by their own country?
This is the untold story of the Battle of Rezang La — one of the most extraordinary last stands in military history, and one of the most tragically forgotten chapters of the 1962 Sino-Indian War. On 18 November 1962, 120 soldiers of Charlie Company, 13 Kumaon Regiment, led by Major Shaitan Singh, were tasked with defending a remote 17,000-foot mountain pass guarding the strategic Chushul airstrip in Ladakh. Armed with outdated rifles, no winter gear, and no artillery support, they stood between India and a force of over 3,000 Chinese soldiers. What followed was a battle so fierce that even the enemy would later honor their courage — but back home, the truth took three long months, and one lost shepherd, to finally come out.
In this documentary, you will discover:
How 120 poorly equipped Indian soldiers held off a Chinese force nearly 25 times their size
The desperate radio call for reinforcements that was denied — and what Major Shaitan Singh did next
The brutal hand-to-hand combat where wrestler-brothers fought Chinese soldiers bare-handed
Why the five soldiers who survived were accused of desertion and treated as outcasts
How a lost shepherd's discovery finally exposed the truth buried under Ladakh's snow
The extraordinary detail investigators found that proved not one soldier had ever tried to flee
Why even Chinese troops paid a rare tribute to their fallen enemies at Rezang La.
This story matters because it is not just military history — it is a story of what real courage costs, and how easily a nation can fail to recognize it. The soldiers of Rezang La gave everything for a mountain pass most Indians had never heard of, and for months, their sacrifice was met with silence and suspicion instead of honor. Their story deserves to be told, remembered, and never buried again — just like they once were.
