Saint Maria Bertilla Boscardin | The Nurse Who Stayed | Catholic Saint of the Day – October 20

**Saint Maria Bertilla Boscardin – The Nurse Who Stayed | October 20** She was underestimated, misunderstood, and told she wasn't capable of great things. Yet when bombs threatened her hospital during World War I, Sister Maria Bertilla remained devoted to the sick and helpless. Born into a poor farming family in Italy in 1888, Anna Francesca Boscardin endured a difficult childhood before answering God's call to religious life. Taking the name Maria Bertilla, she joined the Sisters of Saint Dorothy and eventually became a nurse at the hospital in Treviso, Italy. Her tenderness toward sick children, courage during wartime, and patience through humiliation revealed an extraordinary faith hidden within an ordinary life. Even as a serious illness weakened her own body, she continued serving others. Maria Bertilla died on October 20, 1922, at just 34 years old. Pope John XXIII canonized her on May 11, 1961. Her story reminds us that holiness is not measured by fame, intelligence, wealth, or recognition, but by the love we show to others. 🙏 **A Prayer for Intercession** Saint Maria Bertilla, pray for the sick, the frightened, and those who care for them. Intercede for nurses, caregivers, children, and families facing suffering. Ask Jesus to strengthen our faith, deepen our compassion, and give us courage to remain beside those who need us. Saint Maria Bertilla Boscardin, pray for us. Amen. ✝️ **ABOUT 365 SAINTS IMAGINED** Discover the extraordinary lives of Catholic saints brought to life through cinematic AI-assisted historical storytelling.
