Description
My dad found a Lexus LX 470 sitting in an abandoned warehouse for more than a year and decided it deserved another chance.
At first, the SUV still showed signs of being well cared for by its previous owner. But time had taken its toll. The engine was suffering from oil leaks and excessive oil consumption, the transmission had harsh shifting and engagement problems, and the suspension felt dangerously loose.
So we decided to go all in with a $10,000+ restoration budget.
The LX 470 was completely stripped down. The body was separated from the chassis, years of dirt and sand were pressure-washed from the frame, and the engine was removed and rebuilt after ultrasonic cleaning and inspection.
The suspension was completely refurbished, including worn bushings and leaking components. The transmission was torn apart to replace burnt friction plates and hardened seals that were causing the shifting problems.
The body received epoxy primer, BASF automotive paint and protective clear coat. Inside, the old insulation was removed, new sound-deadening material was installed, and the beige interior was converted to black.
After the final polish, rain test and road test, this forgotten LX 470 finally looked ready for another life.
Would you save it?
