Description
Juicero wasn't a startup failure. It was a belief system. This is a business documentary that examines the company forensics of a startup collapse in Silicon Valley: the $400 Juice press and the conviction that made the collapse inevitable.
In 2016, Doug Evans launched Juicero — a $400 Wi-Fi connected press engineered to squeeze proprietary juice packets. Aerospace-grade components. $120 million from Kleiner Perkins, Google Ventures, and some of the most sophisticated venture capital in the world. By every institutional measure, it was a serious company.
Then a Bloomberg journalist squeezed the packet with their hands. It worked just as well.
The Juicero failure wasn't caused by incompetence. The machine worked. The supply chain worked. The fundraising worked. What failed was the premise. And in Silicon Valley in 2016, questioning the premise wasn't due diligence. It was a character flaw.
This is not a story about a startup that failed. It's about the belief system that made the startup collapse inevitable — and the venture capital logic that funded it anyway.
Most startup failure documentaries follow the product. This one follows the logic.
Watch to the end for the part of this story most coverage misses.
