Description
🎨 Arles, spring 1889: in a small yellow house on Place Lamartine, a thirty-six-year-old Dutchman rises before dawn, straps his easel to his back, and walks into the wheat fields of Provence. AI Reconstruction of an ordinary morning of Vincent van Gogh.
🌾 The documentary opens in the small Provençal town of Arles, on the eastern bank of the Rhône near the Camargue delta — a town of fewer than twenty-five thousand souls where Roman ruins still stood at the heart of the medieval streets: the amphitheatre, the Cryptoporticus, the Alyscamps funerary avenue.
☕ The narrative follows the routine that shaped some of the most productive months in Vincent van Gogh's life: rising at first light in the yellow house rented for fifteen francs a month, dressing in the coarse blue linen jacket, unbleached shirt and wide straw hat visible in his self-portraits; a frugal breakfast at the Café de la Gare of the Ginoux couple; the walk of three or four kilometres into the fields of La Crau with a portable easel and tin tubes of chrome yellow, cobalt and emerald green.
🏛️ The film reconstructs his plein-air method — canvases primed with warm ochre ground, short ridged brushstrokes, the pace dictated by the light — and closes with his departure on 8 May 1889 for the asylum of Saint-Paul-de-Mausole in Saint-Rémy.
