Description
Heidi Firkus called 911 at 6:32 a.m. on April 25, 2010, to report that someone was breaking into her St. Paul, Minnesota home, and seconds later a gunshot ended the call. Her husband, Nicholas Firkus, told police an intruder had shot them both. But a hidden foreclosure, an eviction scheduled for the next day, and an 11-year cold case investigation led prosecutors to argue the break-in never happened. In this true crime documentary, we walk through the 911 call, the financial secrets, the physical evidence, the 2023 trial and life sentence, and the 2026 split Minnesota Supreme Court decision that upheld the conviction. Was the majority right, or did the Chief Justice see something the jury missed? Tell us in the comments, and subscribe to Case Bureau for more true crime documentaries.
Disclaimer: This video is for informational and educational purposes and is based on public court records and news reports. Nicholas Firkus was convicted by a jury in 2023, and the Minnesota Supreme Court affirmed that conviction in 2026, but he maintains his innocence. Every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and claims described here are the prosecution's theories unless stated as court findings. Legal proceedings may continue, and details may change as new information is released. If you have information about any crime, please contact local law enforcement.
