He Solved the Tamam Shud Case by Marrying Into It | True Story

In 1948, a man was found dead on a beach in Adelaide, Australia. No wallet. No ID. Every tag cut from his clothes. The only clue was a tiny scrap of paper hidden in his pocket, torn from a rare book of poetry, printed with two words: "Tamám Shud" — "it is finished." For 74 years, no one knew his name. Detectives chased a spy theory, an unbreakable code, and a mysterious nurse who denied knowing him even as she turned pale at the sight of his death mask. And in a twist no one could have predicted, the scientist who finally solved the case ended up marrying into the very family he was trying to identify. This is the true story of the Somerton Man — a mystery that took DNA testing, four thousand relatives, and one very unlikely love story to finally close. In memory of Carl Webb (1905–1948), identified in 2022 after 74 years as an unknown man.
