Description

For eight and a half days, more than a kilometer underground, his songs kept six men alive. A few weeks later, he wasn't allowed to stay under the same roof as them. In 1958, the survivors of the Springhill mine disaster in Nova Scotia were invited to a free holiday on Jekyll Island, Georgia. One of them, Maurice Ruddick, "The Singing Miner," was the only Black man among them. Georgia was segregated, and the invitation came with a condition that applied only to him. This video follows what happened next, up to the answer he gave. CHAPTERS 0:00 Intro 1:27 I. An Island for the Rich 4:15 II. Springhill 7:45 III. The Bump 11:24 IV. In the Dark 14:45 V.
