Description

Every year, millions of PET scans use radioactive sugar to look for cancer. The method rests on a 1920s discovery by Nobel laureate Otto Warburg: tumors pull in sugar far faster than normal tissue. So does the sugar we eat make cancer worse? In this video we cover what the research shows. In mice, a daily dose of high fructose corn syrup, about the amount in one 12-ounce drink, made intestinal tumors larger and more advanced. A 2024 study found the liver turns fructose into fats that help tumors grow. In large human studies, sugary drinks were linked to higher cancer risk, to colorectal cancer before age 50, and to more recurrence after colon cancer. We also explain why cutting sugar can't starve a tumor, what the first randomized ketogenic diet trial found, and the one habit with randomized evidence after colon cancer. ⏱️ Chapters ⚠️ This video is for education only and is not medical advice. If you have cancer or are in treatment, speak with your oncology team before changing your diet, starting a ketogenic diet or fasting, or taking any supplement or off-label drug.
