Description

Ladies and gentlemen, Aloikin Opoloje Praise was recently granted bail after being abducted following her remarks in which she called CDF Muhoozi Kainerugaba a cabbage and criticised what she described as his lawlessness. But if anyone thought her ordeal would silence her, they clearly underestimated her. In her first one-on-one interview with Agora Discourse, Opoloje doubles down, once again calling Muhoozi a cabbage. She is making it clear that neither intimidation nor the threat of imprisonment will force her to abandon her voice. She also exposes what she sees as a glaring double standard among supporters of Muhoozi and Museveni: the same people who demand civility, decorum, and respectful language from critics often remain silent when those in power use threats, intimidation, and violence. Apparently, politeness is demanded from the powerless, while those wielding power are allowed to behave however they please. Why must citizens carefully police their language when criticising powerful officials, yet those officials and their supporters are not held to the same standards of civility? Aloikin Opoloje Praise is back, and she is not about to keep quiet. Here is her first one-on-one interview with Agora Discourse, followed by my commentary on her remarks, her defiance, and the double standards surrounding political speech in Uganda.
