Description
For nearly a hundred years, commercial aviation accepted one painful truth: the tube and wing was the only design that worked, and almost every efficiency gain since has come from one place, the engines. Then a Dutch university unveiled the Flying V, promising 20% less fuel burn, and by all logic it should have been the future. Six years later it's still a research project with no full-scale demonstrator.
Meanwhile a California startup barely five years old, JetZero, has landed a $235 million US Air Force contract and broken ground on a $4.7 billion factory in North Carolina, claiming 30 to 50% efficiency gains from the airframe alone.
In this video, I investigate JetZero's blended wing body: why Boeing and Airbus haven't built one, how a startup this small is attempting a design that defeated Northrop and NASA decades ago, and the expired 2001 patent that could make the whole thing work.
