Description

Indy2 entered the burial caves and underground tunnels of El Hibeh, Egypt, carrying cameras into spaces archaeologists needed to assess before further exploration. Inside North Cemetery 08, the investigation extended beyond the first chamber—toward additional passages and a puzzling obstruction. This documentary follows the 2017 robotic expedition at El Hibeh, an approximately 3,000-year-old settlement, and examines what the team documented beneath the surface. Working with Egyptologist Dr. Jean Li and the El-Hibeh archaeological mission, researchers deployed a six-wheeled, remotely operated robot to investigate difficult underground environments affected by looting. Its cameras helped the team understand the spaces ahead and decide where further investigation was possible. We follow the evidence through the burial cave, distinguish the robot’s observations from the archaeologists’ subsequent discoveries, and examine what these damaged spaces can still tell us about ancient Egyptian burials. How much can an archaeological site reveal after its original contents have been disturbed—and where does the surviving evidence leave unanswered questions?
