Description

Every prophet the New Testament touches, Isaiah outnumbers them all. Deep Made Simple lines up every direct quotation, in story order, and something unexpected shows up when they're all on the table at once. The writers who quoted him most weren't reaching for his greatest hits. Matthew opens his Gospel with Isaiah 7, closes it with an echo of Isaiah's name for God, and builds most of his argument in between from servant songs nobody puts on a church sign. Paul quotes Isaiah roughly a dozen times in three chapters of Romans alone, wrestling through the hardest question his generation had to face. Peter hands Isaiah 53 to household servants being punished for things they never did, because that's exactly where the prophet said the servant would stand. And the passage all four Gospels and the book of Acts return to most often isn't Isaiah 53. It's Isaiah 6, the commission given to a prophet who was told from the start that nobody would listen. It shows up five times across every kind of writing the New Testament has, and every time a writer reaches for it they use it to answer a different question. The shape underneath all of it is the thing worth seeing. A God who keeps speaking to people who can't hear, a servant who takes the whole failure into himself without a word, and then a door opening wider than anyone expected. Isaiah wrote that arc seven hundred years before the New Testament existed, and the writers who kept quoting him were sure they were living in its last chapters. 📖 KEY VERSE "He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases."
