Before the First Age truly began, Middle-earth already had a history stretching back many years. In Part 1 of my History of Middle-earth series, we're going all the way back to the beginning: the creation of Arda, the rise of Melkor, the Years of the Lamps and the Years of the Trees, the awakening of the Elves, the creation of the Silmarils, the return of Morgoth, the Darkening of Valinor, the Oath of Fëanor, the Kinslaying at Alqualondë, the crossing of the Helcaraxë, and the first rising of the Sun and Moon. The story ultimately follows the Noldor back to Middle-earth, where Fëanor's relentless pursuit of Morgoth and the Silmarils leads to his final battle and death. This is the story of everything that happened before the great wars of the First Age, and how the choices made in the earliest days of Tolkien's world shaped nearly everything that followed. #LordOfTheRings #MiddleEarth #Silmarillion #Tolkien #LOTR 1.
