Description

Long before Blackheath became a popular Blue Mountains destination, a small sandstone inn stood beside the rough mountain road welcoming travellers, drovers and adventurers. Built by former convict Andrew Gardiner in 1831, the Scotch Thistle Inn witnessed the arrival of the convict stockade, the gold rush, the railway and the rise of mountain tourism. Over the decades it changed names and evolved into the hotel we know today as Gardners Inn. Join me as I uncover some of the fascinating history of one of Blackheath's oldest surviving landmarks, and discover where pieces of the original Scotch Thistle can still be found today.
