Something About South Dakota's Crow Creek Massacre No Longer Makes Sense

Fifty earth lodges once stood here, maybe more, ringed by a deep ditch and a timber wall. It was one of the largest fortified towns on the northern Plains. And in a single eroding stretch of that ditch, archaeologists found the bones of nearly five hundred people.
