Description

Under the CPF Education Loan Scheme the student is the borrower and the CPF member is the lender, so a degree paid from a parent's Ordinary Account was lent, not given. Repayment starts one year after graduation or termination of studies, whichever is earlier, must be made in cash, and the graduate cannot use their own CPF to settle it, even while 20% of their salary flows into CPF every month. On a $40,000 loan taken over the full 12 years that is about $278 a month of principal alone, against a take-home of roughly $2,800 on a $3,500 salary. This video walks through who legally owes it, the clock, the cash-only rule, what the instalments do to a first salary, what early repayment saves, and the conversation that fixes it. Your CPF is one piece of a bigger retirement picture. The Singapore Retirement Blueprint helps you plan your CPF, your home, and your income together, step by step: https://moneywithwei.com/ #CPF #CPFEducationLoan #SingaporeRetirement #ParentingSG #MoneyWithWei General education only, not financial advice. Wei is not a MAS licensed adviser. The borrower and lender roles, the repayment start date, the cash-only rule, the 12-year maximum and the requirement to repay accrued interest are CPF's published terms. The $40,000 example, the $278 monthly figure, the take-home calculation and the simple-interest sketch of what early repayment saves are Wei's own illustrations and are not CPF's accrual method. Confirm your own figures with CPF.
