Description
One Indian soldier. One jeep-mounted gun. And a Pakistani Patton tank just 100 meters away. What happened next became one of the most legendary moments of the 1965 Indo-Pak War.
Battle of Asal Uttar was one of the most decisive tank battles of the 1965 India-Pakistan War. In this documentary, we follow the extraordinary story of Company Quartermaster Havildar Abdul Hamid, the Indian soldier who faced Pakistan’s powerful Patton tanks with a jeep-mounted 106 mm recoilless rifle. His courage, tactical skill and ultimate sacrifice became a symbol of extraordinary bravery.
This video covers the Battle of Asal Uttar, Pakistan’s armoured offensive toward Khemkaran, the strategy used by the Indian Army to trap the Patton tanks, Abdul Hamid’s legendary tank kills, the role of 4 Grenadiers, the flooded sugarcane fields, the destruction of Pakistan’s armoured forces, and the sacrifice that earned Abdul Hamid the Param Vir Chakra posthumously.
Key topics covered:
Battle of Asal Uttar 1965
Abdul Hamid and his legendary anti-tank missions
Pakistan’s M47 and M48 Patton tanks
The Indian Army’s Horseshoe defensive strategy
The Battle of Khemkaran and the road toward Amritsar
4 Grenadiers and the 106 mm recoilless rifle
The famous “Graveyard of Pattons”

The story of Abdul Hamid is more than a story about tanks and battlefield tactics. It is a story of courage, sacrifice and determination. A soldier from a humble background stood against some of the most powerful tanks of his time and became a lasting symbol of Indian military bravery.
