Description

#kennewickman #archaeology #history It lay in the shallows of the Columbia River, in a city park in southeastern Washington, a few feet from where crowds had gathered for the hydroplane races. The water was warm and low. The man in it had been dead for roughly nine thousand years. Two college students wading along the bank in July of 1996 found the skull first, and thought it might be a murder victim. By the end of the summer, more than three hundred bones had been pulled from the mud. About ninety percent of a human being, one of the most complete ancient skeletons ever found in the Americas. And from the moment anyone looked at his face, people started telling a story about him that turned out to be wrong. https://www.nature.com/articles/nature14625 https://www.burkemuseum.org/collections-research/culture/repatriation/ancient-one-kennewick-man https://www.nps.gov/articles/kennewick-man.htm
