Daily Bible Verse + Prayer for Today | 1 Samuel 16:7 | Morning Devotional

Have you been feeling overlooked, passed over, or caught in comparison? Begin your day with 1 Samuel 16:7 and a comforting morning prayer reminding you that God sees your heart. “But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.” - 1 Samuel 16:7 (KJV) When Samuel came to Jesse’s household to anoint Israel’s next king, Eliab’s appearance seemed impressive. Yet God directed Samuel to look beyond what his eyes could see. David was still out tending the sheep—and he was the one God chose. This morning devotional invites us to reconsider the measures we use to judge ourselves and others. Appearance, recognition, and first impressions can carry so much weight in our daily lives. But the Lord sees deeper. He knows our motives, our struggles, and the faithfulness that happens when no one is watching. Today’s Scripture reminds us: • God’s understanding reaches beyond outward appearances. • Being overlooked by people does not mean you are forgotten by God. • A faithful heart matters in the quiet, unseen places of life. Perhaps an opportunity went to someone else, your efforts went unnoticed, or comparison has left you questioning your worth. Bring that hurt honestly to the Father. Ask Him to search your heart, shape your character, and help you remain faithful wherever He has placed you.
