Daily Bible Verse + Prayer for Today | Genesis 28:16 | Morning Devotional

Does God feel far away in the middle of your ordinary day? Begin your morning with Genesis 28:16 and a comforting prayer about recognizing God’s presence right where you are. “And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.” - Genesis 28:16 (KJV) Jacob was far from home, facing an uncertain future after deceiving his father and fleeing his brother’s anger. With a stone for a pillow, he lay down to sleep, and there, God met him with a promise of His presence. When Jacob awoke, his surroundings had taken on new meaning. “Surely the LORD is in this place,” he said, “and I knew it not.” He named the place Bethel, meaning “house of God.” In today’s morning devotional, we reflect on how easily we can overlook God’s presence in familiar surroundings. The kitchen table, the journey to work, the hospital waiting room, and the quiet moments between responsibilities can become places where we turn our attention to Him. Jacob’s story invites us to: • Seek God in the ordinary moments of our day. • Bring our failures and uncertainty honestly before Him. • Remember that feeling distant from God does not mean we are beyond His care. • Ask for eyes to recognize His presence and respond in faith. Perhaps you have been waiting for life to feel more settled before drawing near to God. You can pray from the place you are in today, with everything still unfinished.
