AN INCREDIBLE CRAFTSMANSHIP BY @LifeontheMoose Subscribe to the incredible builder and watch his full unedited series here: https://www.youtube.com/@LifeontheMoose Every step of this start-to-finish cabin build is captured in detail. We explore the structural mechanics of laying a point-load pier foundation and the heavy lifting required for solo timber framing. Watch as he ventures into the freezing, snow-covered forest to harvest winter timber, utilizing traditional hand tools, drawknives, and mortise and tenon joinery to craft the loft framing. This video is packed with advanced DIY building techniques! You'll see him mill his own lumber on-site using a portable bandsaw mill, create a custom space-saving sliding ladder, and utilize the ancient Japanese wood preservation technique of Shou Sugi Ban (charred wood) for stunning custom cabinetry. From installing corrugated metal roofing and board and batten siding to setting up a fully functional off-grid solar power system, this is the ultimate guide to wilderness architecture. Grab a warm drink, sit back, and enjoy the relaxing ASMR building process of creating a true off-grid paradise. 0:00 - Engineering the Pier Foundation & Floor Joists 2:25 - Solo Wall Framing & Roof Trusses 4:49 - Sealing the Envelope: Metal Roofing & House Wrap 8:37 - Board & Batten Siding & Wood Staining 11:57 - Harvesting Winter Timber & Hand Tool Woodworking 12:52 - Custom Sliding Ladder Assembly 16:20 - Fiberglass Insulation & Tongue-and-Groove Ceiling 17:49 - Crafting a Rustic Loft Railing from Pine Limbs 21:14 - Beetle-Kill Pine Trim & Milling Custom Flooring 24:46 - Shou Sugi Ban Cabinetry & Live Edge Countertops 27:19 - Off-Grid Solar Power Setup & Interior Finishing 29:57 - The Final Reveal: A Mountain Fortress 🔔 If you appreciate the deep engineering, dedication, and traditional craftsmanship it takes to build a wilderness sanctuary like this, please SUBSCRIBE to Off-Grid Paradise!
