We Can't Abandon BEE! Did Mbeki Just Expose the ANC?

The dispute involving Brent Bozell, Ronald Lamola and the Trump administration raises a bigger question: why is Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) a line the ANC refuses to cross? In this video, I examine the diplomatic confrontation, the debate over exempting American companies from BEE, and the economic consequences of worsening US–South Africa relations. I also discuss Thabo Mbeki’s document and the warning that abandoning BEE could lead to civil war. Could the ANC’s refusal to compromise reflect deeper divisions within the party? I explore my theory about revolutionary factions, corruption, political patronage and the role of Julius Malema’s EFF in keeping the ANC on the left. These are questions about what might explain the ANC’s decisions—and why ordinary South Africans could pay the price. Finally, I turn to 1 Timothy 2 and the Christian responsibility to pray for our leaders.
