Description

There is a jar of Vaseline in your bathroom drawer that has been there since the children were small. Somebody on the internet has told you to put it on your stove, and they are right — but most of them are telling you to put it somewhere that could start a fire in your kitchen. In this video I show you what petroleum jelly actually does to stainless steel: it fills the fine grain in the metal where grease and skin oil settle, so the light bounces evenly again, the haze disappears, the fine scratches sink out of sight and the next fingerprint sits on top of the film instead of down in the steel. Then the warning that matters — never on the burners, never in the drip pans, never on the grates, never inside the oven, never on a glass cooktop. The jelly is a petroleum product and it burns. Then the right way: the palm test that tells you whether your stove front is even the kind this works on, cleaning first, a pea-sized amount, buffing it to nothing along the grain, what to do if you overdo it, and the rest of the kitchen it works on. Plus what a bottle of stainless steel polish actually contains, and what my mother did on a cast iron cookstove with a rag and a little lard.
